African project wins global awards

CG/LA Infrastructure Inc, which specialises in strategic infrastructure project identification, yesterday announced the recipients of its sought-after awards. The awards honour the leaders driving the next generation’s most transformative global infrastructure projects in five categories: strategic, finance, engineering, job creation, and green/new infrastructure.

Both Strategic Project of the Year and Job Creation Project of the Year were given to the $11 billion North-South Corridor, which proposes to link Eight African countries with more than ten thousand kilometres of road, unlocking the economic potential of landlocked countries in southern and eastern Africa. The North-South Corridor links the port of Durban to the Copperbelt in DR Congo and Zambia and has spurs linking the port of Dar es Salaam and the Copperbelt and Durban to Malawi.

The award for Green/New Infrastructure Project of the Year was shared by Gujarat International Finance – Tec City (GIFT), a $20 billion scheme to create a global financial hub in India, and Lima Metro Line 3 in Peru.

Umbulan Water Supply PPP Project in Indonesia was declared Finance Project of the Year, while Engineering Project of the Year, which last year was taken by the Hyderabad Metro, was awarded to the Crossrail 2 project in the United Kingdom.

“The G-20 recently vowed to raise global GDP by two percent above the trend line through increased investment in infrastructure,” said CG/LA Infrastructure President and CEO Norman F Anderson (pictured). “The Projects of the Year Awards recipients are the groundbreaking projects that show how we will transform that goal into reality. The awards honour the leaders who are creating transformative infrastructure projects critical to creating growth and opportunities in their countries.”
